Terms of Use

Using Artos Bible app

The following describe Artos Bible app as a free Scripture reading app today. The following is not a substitute for advice from your own attorney.

Use at your own risk

You use the application at your own risk. The app is provided as is. It is not a church, pastor, or professional advice.

Your marks and device

Bookmarks, highlights, notes, labels, and reading place stay on your device (see Privacy). You are responsible for your device. Local marks (bookmarks, highlights, notes, labels, etc.) will be lost if you uninstall the app or change phones.

Adding a translation

If you add a Bible translation, Artos fetches a file from artosbible.app once. After that, the text stays on this device. Those editions follow their own notices in the app (see Privacy).

Subject to change

We may update this. The version in the app (and on artosbible.app) is the current one.

The section above is specific to Artos Bible app. The section below is a more formal baseline for the Application, adapted from a widely used open-source app terms template and edited so it stays consistent with the Artos Bible app section and with Privacy (local marks; no social graph).

Formal terms and conditions (baseline)

These terms apply to the Artos Bible app for Android and iOS (the “Application”). By downloading or using the Application, you agree to these Terms. Together with Privacy, they govern use of the Application.

License to use the Application

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, you are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Application on a mobile device for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, create derivative works from, reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Application, except as and only to the extent that such activity is expressly permitted by applicable law.

Intellectual property

All intellectual property rights in the Application (code, design, trademarks, logos, and branding) remain with the operator of Artos Bible app, except for third-party Scripture texts and pack content, which remain subject to their own notices and licenses where shown in the Application.

Nothing in these Terms grants you any license to use trademarks, logos, or branding for any purpose. You agree not to remove, alter, or obscure any proprietary notices displayed in or on the Application.

Local marks and acceptable use (not a social network)

Artos Bible app does not operate a social feed, public posts, or user accounts for sharing content with other users.

On your device: Bookmarks, highlights, notes, labels, reading place, and preferences may be stored locally in a private vault on your device (see Privacy). In this version of Artos Bible app, we do not receive those marks and do not claim a license to use, publish, or monetize your notes on our servers.

You agree not to use the Application to violate law or others’ rights, reverse engineer beyond what the law allows, resell the app as your own product, or harm others.

Termination

You may stop using the Application at any time by uninstalling it.

We may cease providing the Application or particular versions at any time. Upon termination of your right to use the Application, delete copies from your devices. Local data is removed according to the platform and Privacy (uninstall / clear app data).

You represent that you are legally permitted to use the Application in your jurisdiction. Artos Bible app is intended for family use with appropriate parental guidance. Where a higher age of digital consent applies under local law, a parent or legal guardian should review and accept these Terms on behalf of a child.

Device, connectivity, and updates

It is your responsibility to maintain the security of your mobile device and access to the Application. Jailbreaking or rooting can compromise security and may cause the Application not to function correctly.

Some optional functions (for example opening a link you choose, or adding a Bible translation from artosbible.app) may require an internet connection. We are not responsible if the Application does not function at full capacity due to lack of connectivity, exhausted data allowance, or network charges. You are responsible for such charges and for permission from the bill payer if you are not the bill payer.

You are responsible for keeping your device charged.

Updates may be offered. You may need to install them to continue using the Application. We do not guarantee ongoing compatibility with every operating system version. We may cease providing the Application without individual notice.

Consumer rights

Nothing in these Terms shall limit any rights you have under applicable consumer protection laws that cannot be lawfully excluded.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, data loss, or business interruption, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

We retain full liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Application in the 12 months preceding the claim, or the minimum amount required by applicable law, whichever is greater. If the Application is free, liability is limited to the minimum permitted by law.

We accept no liability for loss from relying entirely on third-party information obtained through links you open, or for inaccuracies in third-party content.

Indemnification

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operator of Artos Bible app and its people from claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or directly related to your breach of these Terms or your intentional misuse of the Application.

This does not apply to claims arising from our own negligence, breach of these Terms, or violation of applicable law. Where consumer indemnification is restricted by law, this clause is limited to the maximum extent permitted.

Third-party services

The Application is not integrated with advertising or analytics SDKs for tracking. If you open a third-party website or service from the Application, that third party’s own terms and privacy practices apply. We are not responsible for third-party sites or payment processors.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by applicable law of the United States, except where mandatory consumer protections in your place of residence say otherwise.

Digital Services Act (if applicable)

If and only if the Application qualifies as an intermediary service under the EU Digital Services Act, applicable DSA obligations will be met. In this version, Artos Bible app is an offline-first Scripture reading app without a public content-hosting feed; DSA intermediary duties may not apply.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, it shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable, and the remaining provisions remain in full force.

Entire agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement concerning your use of the Application, superseding prior agreements or understandings regarding that use.

Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time by posting the updated terms with an effective date (including in the app and on artosbible.app). You are advised to review the Terms regularly. Where required by law, we will seek consent to material changes before they take effect.
