Privacy Philosophy
Bible translations in the app are sourced from the public-domain and we are happy to provide attribution to these sources. How you annotate Scripture in the app is private to you. Bookmarks, highlights, notes, and labels are all private to you.
Our default is no tracking
Apple and Google app stores collect data such as downloads, updates, ratings, crash counts, and other data. More on this below.
Artos Bible app does not collect your data or train on your data.
Marks stay on your device
Bookmarks, highlights, notes, and labels remain on your device. Artos Bible app does not collect this information.
Adding a translation
If you add a Bible translation, Artos fetches a file from artosbible.app once. After that, the text stays on this device for offline reading. We do not use this to track you or build a reading profile.
Encrypted on device
Your personal marks are stored with encryption at rest.
Subject to change
We may update this. The version in the app (and on artosbible.app) is the current one.
The section above is specific to Artos Bible app. The section below is a more formal baseline policy for the Application, adapted from a widely used open-source app privacy template and edited so it stays consistent with the Artos Bible app section.
Formal privacy policy (baseline)
This privacy policy applies to the Artos Bible app for Android and iOS (the “Application”).
What information does the Application obtain and how is it used?
Registration is not required. We do not operate an account system that collects or stores your personal marks on our servers for tracking or profiling.
On your device only: As described above, the Application may store open Scripture text and your personal marks locally on your device. Those marks are kept in a private encrypted vault. In this version of Artos Bible app, we do not receive those marks.
Network: If the Application uses an active internet connection (for example when you open a link you choose, or when you add a Bible translation from artosbible.app), technical protocol data (such as an ephemeral IP address) may be transmitted by the device or network to make connectivity work. We do not use that kind of data to track you across apps or build a reading profile.
Does the Application collect precise real-time location information of the device?
No. The Application does not collect precise information about the location of your mobile device.
Do third parties see and/or have access to information obtained by the Application?
We do not sell your data and do not share your personal marks with third parties, because in this version those marks are not sent to us.
If you open a third-party website or service from the Application, that third party’s own privacy practices apply to what happens there.
The Application is not integrated with advertising or analytics SDKs for tracking.
What are my opt-out rights?
Because normal use does not send your personal marks to us for tracking:
- Uninstalling the Application removes the Application and its local data from that device (including local marks stored only there).
- If you contact us directly or voluntarily provide information by other means (for example email), you may request deletion of that information by contacting us via artosbible.app.
Children
The Application is intended to be suitable for family use, including with appropriate parental guidance. We do not knowingly solicit personal data from children for tracking or marketing.
Parents and guardians are responsible for how children use devices and apps. If you believe a child has voluntarily provided personal information to us by other means (for example email), contact us so that information can be handled as required by law.
Security
Personal marks on the device are stored with encryption at rest. Because we do not collect those marks on our servers in this version, the risk of a server breach exposing your notes is minimized. No security system is completely secure. You are responsible for physical access to your device and for OS-level protections (passcode, biometrics, etc.).
Data breach notification
If a breach occurs involving personal data you have voluntarily provided to us (for example by email), we will notify you as required by applicable law. A breach limited to data that exists only on your own device is outside our systems.
Data deletion
On the device: You may delete marks inside the Application where the app allows, clear app data, or uninstall the Application.
Voluntarily provided to us: If you have sent personal data by email or other means, you may request deletion via artosbible.app. We will process requests within the timeframes required by applicable law.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time by posting the updated policy with an effective date (including in the app and on artosbible.app). Where required by law, we will seek consent to material changes before they take effect.
Your consent
If you voluntarily provide information to us and processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time without affecting processing carried out before withdrawal. Using the Application on your device is covered by this policy and by the product practices in the Artos Bible app section above.
